This tiny white flower has very nice fragrance like the pandan leaves. I found them in the Penang Botanic Gardens and wish I can steal some home to keep as potpourri because it smells so nice!
I tried comparing with the ones the Indian women used to weave into their hairs but it is not the same.
This white flower has the tiny ball like middle part. The plant is a big bush the height of 5 feet and the leaves are rather green and shiny. Ever heard of smelling some fragrance and people think it may be ghosts or spirits around? I think this describe the smell of this flower. Another one of my spooky flower tales.
Anyone knows the name? I really would like to know about it more.
Answer.
‘Kesidang ‘ or ‘canangrium scortechinii’ is a special small plant . The stems are small yet hard and the branch blooms on the tip. This plant consist a type of latex, the leaves are similar to the ’sirih’ and it gives shade to other trees nearby . It’s small shape and soft characteristic makes it the choice of decoration in high and respected places.
The tradisional community of Melaka use the ‘Kesidang’ to groom the female’s hair, bride’s accessories and ritual ceremonies such as ‘tapak sirih’ and ‘bunga rampai’.
‘Kesidang’ represent the humble character and personality of the people of Melaka whom are friendly and courteous. Source
