Biskut piring = air biscuits?

wafer2

I am not sure if this biscuit (more like wafer) has been around for a long time. I never pay attention to them until my kids ‘discovered’ them a year or two ago.

They just love this thin wafer made of eggs, flour and sugar. It is a little bit like the kueh kapit. They come in different pastel colours like pink, white, yellow and green.

wafer

The Chinese calls this ‘hong pneah’ as in air biscuits because it really is full of air and nothing much! You can chomp through a whole packet (cost about RM2+) without feeling full.

I remember this 30 something years ago. Grammy used this to bribe us to go to the Chinese opera with her in Penang. This was one of the things they sold at the opera.( otherwise how does a 5 year old last so long at a screeching opera.LOL)
