Anything but white rice

When I was pregnant with my fifth baby, I had pre-eclampsia and almost have gestational diabetes. I was admitted for monitoring and it was a tedious test because they need to prick me every few hours to see how I react to the glucose test.

The culprit was all the carbohydrates I was consuming. In the end, I have to cut out white rice or anything with rice flour from my meals. It as that scary because the moment I took white rice, my blood sugar shot up sky high. Therefore, I know how menacing white rice is. All sugar, sugar and nothing else.

The gestational diabetes disappeared after giving birth because it is caused by the pregnancy. However, since then, I have always avoid white rice if I can help it. Right now, I added millet and red rice (something I bought from organic shop, not the regular bee koh moey variety) to my white rice as well as brown, unpolished rice.

So, yeah, my rice does not look good. But what do I care, it is much healthier than white rice.

My hubby said my rice is like Made In India. My son said the rice smells weird and the other one said it looks like maggots. Doh! They either eat it or go hungry. Hehehe. The above is a plate of tang-oh and rice. My dinner.

    Far from not looking good, it looks delicious! How does it taste compared with white rice?

    I also got the same problem with you when I were pregnant for my second baby. But after give birth no more already. Anyway, I did not eat much rice too coz I don’t have much appetite during that time. Anyway, kena diabetic also. Why har?
