Sesame oil and ginger chicken

I am normally too lazy to write about the daily stuffs I cook as I thought they may be too mundane. However, someone told me she actually like the simple dishes that we eat everyday because as a novice cook, she wants to learn to do that.

So, let me share some of the very, very basic stuffs that you can easily dish up without much fuss. This sesame oil and ginger chicken is also a good dish for post-natal moms because the sesame oil and ginger is good for healing and also expelling wind from our guts. You see, our pregnant bodies distended a bit during pregnancy due to the hormones released to make our womb growing to accommodate the growing baby. However, not only our womb got all loosen up for the purpose, our stomach too gets all loosen up abit.

After birth, we need to shrink all these parts. It is a natural process, of course. But there will be lots of wind in our stomach if we don’t take some warm foods to expel it. Therefore, Chinese moms are encourage to take some ginger in their diets for that purpose.

Enough of confinement story. Let’s get on with food.

Recipe for Sesame Oil and ginger chicken

Ingredients : Two chicken thighs cut into bite sizes

I thumb size ginger, slice finely

2 tablespoon sesame oil

Soya sauce, dark soya sauce, pepper and a pinch of sugar

Method :

Heat sesame oil and stir fry the ginger till fragrant. You can smell the fragrance miles away. Many people are usually put off by this combination but others love it.

Put in chicken and stir fry a bit. Add some water, the seasoning and let the chicken simmer over low fire until the meat is tender and the gravy is rather thick. Taste and season according to your taste.

I had sprinkled some sesame seeds on top for decoration purpose. I like to keep a jar of pan roasted sesame seeds for garnishing and salads. Try it.

Try to fry with little water, means thick gravy. And fry with ‘kampong keh’ (farm chicken) that really meant for confinement woman.
