In many ways, Chinese basic meal is way healthier than most. So, let’s see what we typically eat at home on a regular day.
This is just a random photo I took a few days ago. Seen above are -
Square casserole/soup : Tofu and egg soup which were flavoured with some anchovies for taste
Vege : Stir fried asparagus with bottled dried shrimp paste (check out CookingIsland for purchase)
Meat : Stir fried sesame oil and ginger chicken.
We have white rice as the fillers. Normally, I prepare my white rice with 2:1 white rice:brown, unpolished rice with some millet.
Close up pic of the asparagus. Normally, I stir fry vegetables with some garlic and salt and pepper. However, asparagus have stronger smell so I prefer to add this dried shrimp paste to balance it out. I have a lower, hardy stems of the asparagus left and is boiling soup with it.
My younger kids only like soft foods like eggs and tofu so this soup is quite a staple at home.
It is certainly very cheap to prepare home-cooked meals. Not to mention healthy and fast.

Hi Lilian, may I have the recipe for your tofu soup? I have an idea of how it’s cooked, but I wanted to make sure - people in the house have been sick and the tofu soup looks really comforting. Thanks in advance! (No measurements needed for the recipe if you can’t be arsed - I’m quite competent in the kitchen… just the ingredients will do).
