My favourite time of the year. It is when the air has this special smell. Very much like rotten cheese and yet, so special. Well, don’t worry, it is not the air in the whole country. But at places like the markets and even from others’ homes. I know how torturous it is when the neighbours’ houses permeate the durian fragrant and we do not happen to have any at home.
I am not sure if this is the freakiest fruit in the world but Anthony Bourdain couldn’t stomach it. So, it has to be really out of this world, isn’t it? It is the king of the fruits. And the best durians happen to come from my little island in Penang, Malaysia. Lucky me.
Just take a look at that creamy flesh….Imagine the taste of the world’s best icecream, only it is not cold. Or the smoothest, creamiest custard, only much more ‘smelly’. What about the most matured cheese, only much more flavourful?
Durians – You either love it or hate it. No in betweens.
So, out of towners, now is the time to visit Penang. Give it a week to get the best harvest.
May I know where to buy cheap and nice durians at this season? Where is the best place to get them? I know Balik Pulau durians are the best. I think they’re expensive too π
YUCK! It’s the evil fruit!!
