For the whole month of Ramadhan, we will be taking those juadah buka puasa from the Pasar Ramadhans around us. It is a very nice experience to buy these delicious traditional Malay dishes from all the sweet makciks who are so friendly. I only wish they sell them throughout the year because these simple foods are mostly healthy and delicious.
This is the nasi daging. It is just plain simpled beef boiled and the rice is richly flavoured with the beef stock and spices. What you get is just rice and beef. They provide air assam and some dhal curry as the side dishes.
The makcik who sells this nasi ulam is very fond of my hubby because he is the only Chinese who buys regularly from her, year after year. If I am not mistaken this is the Kelantan style of nasi ulam. It has some ulam, serunding (or is it kerisik?) , kembong fish, keropok, beef and sambal. The ultimate health food because it has raw vegetable and almost no oil in the cooking.
And the nasi ayam.
All the above from the pasar ramadhan in Kulim, Kedah.

Nasi ulam looks a lot like nasi kerabu! Are they the same? I absolutely love it, the ulam is very refreshing. I’ve been going to ramadan bazar as frequent as I can as there are only 30 days to try everything

ya it really looks like nasi kerabu especially the color of rice and the side dishes that come with it. the nasi dagang is a bit different than what i got here in Klang, as it usually comes with rice, kari ikan tongkol (albacore tuna) & telur masin (salty egg).

True that one is spoilt for choice, but sometimes I buy something that looks good enogh to be photographed (read: food colouring) but taste like god knows what ony. Some people think that just because they can fry onions they a ready to sell food to people… rants.

All those dishes are tasteful but for myself, this Ramadhan month just the best time to activate my diet regime. I only take kuih, kurma and non-ice water for buka puasa. This is the most tough time to handle for the food temptation. I can’t deny mostly makcik who sell in pasar ramadhan are homemade style and you hardly can get for the rest 11 month.. For auntie, makan puas-puas. Nice blog!

I envy you with all those food that are available in Msia. As for me, I have to do my own cooking. Sometimes so malas…. I wish we have pasar ramadan in Perth.
