Sticky, chewy, sweet Chinese traditional cakes

DSCN4713

When you see this type of sweet, rice cakes you know that the nine emperor gods festival is coming. On the first day of the Chinese ninth lunar month, some Chinese of the Taoist (?) faith will go on nine days of vegetarian fast. So, this extremely sweet rice cakes will be sold. For the sake of blogging, I bought a packet. :P It is really, really sweet. Made of rice flour and sugar, I suppose it gives energy to those on vegetarian fast.

Meanwhile, these sesame seeds coated squares are available all year long. It is just as sweet and made of maltose and I don’t know what else.

So, there you have it. My sacrifice to buy something that I do not like to eat and yet, I buy them because I ran out of things to blog. LOL.
