Check out Figo’s Restaurant at Jalan Sungai Kelian (non-halal)

-Non-halal food outlet-

The area in Sungai Kelian is slowly turning into a bustling eateries watering hole. You have German, Bulgaria, Korean, Indian, Japanese, mamak and hawker foods in the same location. Jalan Sungai Kelian is that little housing area opposite Copthorne Hotel/The Cove condos.

Figo’s Restaurant is the new addition. It is next to Khaleel mamak place, opposite Esso. Initially, I was a little bit curious why anyone would paint their restaurant a mixture of fuchsia pink and yellow. Then, one day, my second son told me he is going to work part-time there. That’s how I decided to check out Figo’s. Otherwise, I can seriously tell you that I will wait until someone else does because the pink-yellow is just a bit too much for me.

(trust me, it is a lot prettier at night, this is taken with my phone camera)

Last Friday, I went there with my hubby, eldest son and my youngest boy. Business was a bit slow but that’s is probably because of the 9-emperor god. I immediately like the place because it is not pretentious, has a homey feel and service was good. Figo’s serves a mix of Tex-Mex, New Orleans and Melaka nyonya foods.

For appetizer, we had the oysters shot which is raw oysters with a shot of tequila, tabasco and lemon juice.

Quite fun to slurp the oysters in shot glasses. RM18 for half a dozen.

My eldest son had the Louisiana Mix Grill which costs only RM30. It comes with a large prawn, sausage, pork and beef fillet and potatoes. Even as a culinary arts student, my eldest son and I cannot tell the beef from the pork. So, you can say it is rather nice. Not your regular dried like cardboard piece of pork fillet so that’s why we cannot tell which is beef and which is pork.

Drinks at Figo’s are cheap. The Tiger Crystal goes for only RM6.50 + 5% (soon to be 6%) tax. I cannot even find Tiger Crystal from most supermarkets except Cold Storage. Cold Storage is selling for RM7.99. So, it is so much worth it to drink at Figo’s.

The other fruit juices are only RM3 and it is fresh.

My youngest boy had Sloppy Joe which is roast pork sandwiches which is really sloppy but delicious to eat. Since it is not so halal, I shall not post the pic. Sloppy Joe is only RM12.

But what got me raving about Figo’s is the Melaka Nyonya Chili Powder crab. It is so delicious and I would have wiped clean the plate if I have some bread. Still, that didn’t stop me from savoring the gravy with lots of onions and fresh coriander leaves. The portion of crab is for two person and costs only RM21.

Many of Figo’s dishes are for two persons. I am going to try out the Gumbo (from Princess and the Frog) and other New Orleans dishes. My son who works there told me they have pork burgers too and it is one of their best selling items. My son works in the cold kitchen, preparing the sandwiches and stuffs.

Oh ya…the chocolate moist cake is also yummy. Not too sweet, not too sticky but sinfully good.

Figo’s is a refreshing change because they are serving pork. I am getting tired of joints calling themselves ‘No Pork’. Whatever that means…..

Figo’s Restaurant is at No. 3, Jalan Sungai Kelian, Tanjung Bunga (In front of Esso Hillside)
(I do not have their phone number nor business hours. Forget to ask 🙂 )
