Dried fruits for soups

Here are some dried fruits commongly used by Chinese to boil soups. These soups can either be sweet dessert or soups boiled with meats and bones.

lohankuo

This is the loh han kuo (Cucurbitaceae fruit) which is purportedly to give :

Spleen & Lungs – the effects of Antipyretic; moist; calming; and relaxing.

Indications: Digestive tract problems; sore throats, coughs, headache and tension.

Remarks: Effective for elimination of constipation, diarrhea, or other digestive problems; relaxes digestive tract and, thus, relieves tension and helps to reduce headaches.

Next is the honey dates. This is the version that is without sugar coating. One large packet costs about RM4 only.

And another batch of dried fruits, consisting of dried persimmon, dried longan and sugar tangerine (kat peng).
