I don’t really believe in Chinese herbal brews but nevertheless, do faithfully boil them because they are tasty.
The above is the loh han kuo which I had brewed for the hubby and children. The raw ingredients of these are shown in my earlier posting.
Note that the segmental brown thing in the spoon cannot be eaten. It is the loh han kuo which CANNOT be eaten because it is a bit bitter and seriously, you will not chew it.
Ingredients for making loh han kuo thongsui:
1.5 litre water
1 loh han kuo, smash the outer shell and use the inner parts
4 honey dates
1 sugar tangerine (kat peng)
1 dried persimmon – cut into strips
Boil for 1 hour. No sugar required because the honey dates and sugar tangerine are sweet enough. Drink the water if those ingredients do not suit your taste buds. It is suppose to be good for coughs and removing phlegm. Good for haze weather too.
I am only guessing the ingredients to use. If I missed out any important ingredients, please do teach me. This is the first time I cook loh han kuo.
Can add sea coconut….yummy yummy!
Yummy, I love tong sui. Must go look for this or go make some too.
Love Luo Han Kuo tong sui!! Actually chinese herbs and tong sui do help with heat. Good to drink on very hot days or like you said, because its just tasty!
