Missy Donut, Gurney Drive, Penang Malaysia

authorLilian | December 4, 2007

I happened to be around when Missy Donut was officially opened by Eric Tsang, that short Hongkong actor whom I heard is the head of some triad. Shhh…that’s what I heard, just a rumour only.

According to the Missy Donut site, they said it is some Japanese franchise. I know it was a lot nicer when they gave us free samplings the other day. Maybe I bought the donuts too late at night so it is rather hardened and not freshly made anymore.

Six of these cost RM11. There aren’t many choices left so we bought one of each.

The peanut butter flavour. Not bad since I am a fan of peanut butter.

missy donut doughnut

The standard chocolate donut which my kids like.

missy donut doughnut

White chocolate. Not bad but the chocolate coating doesn’t stick to the doughnut. We cut them into quarters so that each of us can sample all the flavours. After cutting, the white chocolate coating detached from the doughnuts.

They have some sweet pink hearts donut with fillings and I saw one with cheese as well. However, all of them were sold out and I didn’t get to taste it. I heard that their caramel topping is tasty as well but it is also sold out.

Sorry I am not linking the website here but if you wish to find out more, just Google for it, ok? Well, I am not a fan of doughnuts and I don’t think you will find me queueing up for some dough with holes in the middle.

P/S : The green tea flavour suxs. There is not even a hint of green tea and the donut is not even green.

Food photos from TGIF

authorLilian | November 10, 2007

*This is not a sponsored post and not participating in any competition. However, you stand a chance to win a meal for two if you enter the contest from TGIF. Details can be found on Nuffnang’s site.*

Since it is the weekend and I have a lack of food photos to post, let me share some of the photos I took when I had my meal at TGIF in Queensbay, Penang :

Mocha Mudpie from TGIF

Mocha mud pie which is a huge block of icecream, nuts, brownie, chocolate fudge.

TGIF food

TGIF has two sets of menu, for the healthy eater and the big eater which they call the devilishly menu. The above is from the healthy menu. I am not sure what it is ‘cos I didn’t order it. Some cheesy bread.

Martini prawns, TGIF

The appetizer served in a martini glass. Large prawns in some tomato salsa.

I have more photos of the TGIF set dinner l but I had posted it in my personal blog.

The set dinner is only RM39 which includes free flow of soft drinks (if I am not mistaken). LOL, I ordered alcoholic cocktail so I didn’t pay attention if the soft drinks are free.

For RM39++, it is a really good bargain. You get appetizer or soup, a main meal and dessert. If you are a food blogger from Malaysia or Singapore, do sign up with Nuffnang. You can make money by placing advertisements on your blog. I had made some nice income from Nuffnang. You can see my cheque received from Nuffnang on my make money blog.

Thanks to CookingIsland cupcakes

I was having lunch at Audees today with my family. Just as I was about to finish lunch, I received a call from Lawrence who sang in Cantonese. Lawrence, you are so comical. I thought you are Rojakz and that’s why I spoke Cantonese.

Lawrence wanted to drop these lovely cupcakes baked by his wife, Erina. Since we are so near to his shop at CookingIsland, it took him just minutes to bring them to me. Such a lovely surprise! I was just about to go out and get a birthday cake.

DSC_0026

Nine lovely, yummy, sinfully rich chocolate cake which my kids’ taste buds told me are nutella hazelnut spread. I love those red hearts and gold balls, Erina. So romantic….

Thanks, Erina & Lawrence. Both of you made my birthday so much happier. I wish I took more pics but my kids’ hands were all over the cupcakes before I can shoot any decent pics.

See? I didn’t even have time to find a candle. BTW, those tiny multi-coloured balls were strewn by my own kid.

(More about CookingIsland.net here)

BTW, all the birthday wishes are over here. Just in case, you want to eheh, wish me. I prefer to make the numbers over there. Thanks in advance anyway.

Once in a while, it is great to stumble on nice website which the owner has taken a lot of time to work on it. The Well Dressed Food Company is one such site which meet this criteria.

Therefore, I have much pleasure to share the link with readers of Best Recipes. It is started by David Tomberlin who is the founder of Well Dressed Food. According to him, it is his lifelong love of great foods and entertaining that got him to start the site. He recently launched their initial product line, which is made from fresh, locally-produced ingredients, includes Adirondack Crunchy Granola, collections of spiced nuts and specialty honeys and Great Camp Classics, an assortment of unique apple butters and fruit conserves crafted in the tradition of the turn-of-the-century Adirondack great camps.

Marble cake recipe

authorLilian | June 12, 2007

I baked a marble cake today because I have a portion of 72% Swiss dark chocolate which doesn’t taste good. What I did was to microwave the bar of chocolate for one minute on high and added 2 huge teaspoons of cocoa powder.

For the recipe, I have used :

Four eggs

250 grams butter

250 grams caster sugar (because the chocolate is bitter, otherwise, 200 grams for a cake will be enough)

250 grams self-raising flour

Some milk and vanilla essence.

Method :

Even my 10 years old son can now mix a cake. Basically, just cream the sugar and butter with a mixer till white and fluffy. Add in eggs. Fold in flour (use a wooden spoon and gently add in). Add some milk so that the batter has dropping consistency. If you like, add some vanilla essence.

Take 1/3 of the batter and put into the bowl where your chocolate is. Mix well.

I actually goofed up. I should put the chocolate and regular batter in small drops but instead, I put them in layers. Doh, I haven’t bake for a while and hence forgot how to make a nicer pattern. What you can do is to layer the bottom part with regular batter, then, drop the chocolate and regular batter alternately. After that twirl with a chopstick.

Bake at 180 deg. celcius for about 45-60 minutes.

The cake turned out very nice, moist, full of chocolate flavour and very tasty. You may want to check ou the last time I baked a marble cake and how to avoid lousy cakes.
