Summer Garden, Penang

**not a halal joint as they serve pork**

Summer Gardens is this lovely restaurant located in Vale of Temp, at the junction where one turns into TAR college. I really love the ambience. I went there at night and the water mist, greeneries plus the lights give it a surreal look. They have an open kitchen and different kind of dining rooms. There is section with a bar, a family corner and an open air dining area.

nice corner

I a sucker for nice ambience and beautiful cutleries so I shall forgive the food quality a bit. However, service is fast and our soups arrive within minutes.

duck breast with black cherries

My duck breast with black cherries was the last to arrive. I am not sure why but after hubby and all the kids have eaten their main course and dessert, I was still waiting for this plate of duck breast. It costs RM39. Taste wise, it is a bit disappointing because the meat is still tough. I was expecting melt in the mouth gamey meat but instead had to chew on the duck.

My eldest son said, “Ma, with that price, we can eat a whole Peking duck with crepe”

My husband said, “Maybe they ran to Seng Kee (some old famous kopitiam in town) and bought the duck breast for you, that’s why it took so long.”

*roll eyes*

seafood carbonara

My eldest son has the seafood carbonara with seafoods. Portion is just nice but I prefer the one I had at Dome last week.

tenderloin

My second son ordered the tenderloin steak.

I notice they have a lot of Japanese foods on their menu but we prefer Western. So I do not know if the Japanese foods are nice. Beside that, for lunch, they serve local dishes.

prawn olio

Hubby had the prawn olio. The portion is quite small.

kahlua chocolate cake

This is one item that is nice. It is chocolate kahlua cake with a dollop of icecream. The cake is served warm. Beside this, we ordered two other cakes, i.e. white chocolate cheese (at RM8.90 it is rather expensive) and some banana cake (which is too dry and sweet).

white chocolate cake

Would I recommend this place? Well….give it a try. Food is nothing really fantastic but if you are in the neighbourhood or wish to take a drive up the winding Vale of Temp, it looks like a nice place to have some foods and wine with friends.

Satay or skewered meat grilled over charcoal fire is probably a Malaysian signature foods. Tourists to Malaysia and other parts of South East Asia have to at least eat satay if they are here.
