Taiping Zoo & Night Safari

Snakes! Lots of them. Big ones, tiny ones. Solitary one or come in bunches. That’s what make a zoo interesting. It has so many types of animals in one place.

Usually, people will scoff at how bad a zoo is. They grumbled about the poor living conditions of the animals and so on. But I think zoo is a great place. Sacrifice a few animals, causing them to live in caged condition but they in return provide thousands and millions of children a lot of education.

On the day we went to the Taiping Zoo and Night Safari, there were many busloads of kindergarten and primary school children. Some of the kindies children brought along printed papers/list of the animals they are visiting. Then, their teacher explained to them the animal habitat, characteristics etc etc. It was so cute to see the little kids taking down notes.

For us adults, just take a trip to the zoo as an opportunity to exercise. After all, a ticket costs only RM5.

These elephants appear like they have been there for as long as I remember. They even have a baby elephant now. Cute.

The animals are segregated according to their natural habitats. These zebras are placed in the ‘African Safari’ area along with ostriches, giraffes and some other animals.

The Taiping Zoo and Night Safari has its own website. More information can be obtained there. It is a no frills zoo compared to the Zoo Negara in Kuala Lumpur or the Melaka Zoo. Due to its smaller area, I found a walk in the zoo rather entertaining. I must say that the zoo has been maintained well with a lot of workers.

  1. taiping zoo is definately malaysia best and puts zoo negara to shame!!! kudos and due credit goes to Mr Kevin Lazarus for not turning the fate of his animals to that of zoo negara and paya indah wetlands where the animals still suffer due to mans greed and blatant corruption.
THEY WILL BURN IN HELL FOR ABANDONING THE HIPPOS I TELL YOU!!!!!!

  2. i have to definately agree with susie_q…taiping zoo gets multiple thumbs up…the zoo is simply amazing…in my opinion zoo negara is almost like a dog kennel run by mppj…its a real eye sore and pity all the animals forced to live there…in taiping zoo you could actually see the animals are happy…had the best of time there about 2 months back…worth every cent…

  3. AAAAARGH so early in the morning got terrified by those snakes… think I will avoid your site for few days until the picture is much further down..I see snakes I freeze. and people have to literally push me along or carry me out

  4. romantic – Oh poor you! I did it for special effects but don’t mean to freeze you.

RB – The night safari is something like Spore but kurang canggih la. No smoke machine nor SYT in kebaya as narrator. Only RM10, what do you expect. That safari in Singapore damn expensive man. The food there burnt a big hole in our pocket. But the place damn exotic hor?

sbd18 & susie_q – I agree with both of you. For so many years and the zoo is still so well-maintain. Even the toilet is clean too. I was so relieved! And to think that they have smaller budget compared to zoo negara which has so many sponsors.

  5. I’ve been to Zoo Negara, Taiping Zoo & Singapore’s Night Safari, and would have to agree with reallybites. I like the Night Safari too.
