Siam Laksa and kueh Melayu

siamlaksa

I am drooling as I was uploading this photo to Flickr. I wish I can have a bowl of this sourish with a tinge of lemak (milky taste from coconut milk) laksa.

Notice that it is served very much different from Penang laksa and a bit similar to Kedah? The distinct difference is there is no sticky, black prawn paste. In place, there is hard boiled egg and kasturi lime. A big bowl which 3 of us shared cost RM5.

We get this laksa from the Tapah R&R (North to South side) from a new cafe with aircond called Shahala Coffee. This place has blended drinks and brewed coffee too.

They also serve Malay kuehs in these small plastic containers. I ordered the koleh kacang, that purple thingy which I forget the name and kueh talam. The kueh talam is a little disappointing but the rest were nice.

This place is a refreshing change from the standard beehoon, mee goreng, nasi lemak and nasi Melayu offerings sold by the vendors outside.

  1. Wah wah wah … It looks as if you really enjoyed the R&R. I also hope that they can maintain the cleanliness and the ambience. We used to only eat at Dunkin D during our frequent trips back to Penang until we stumbled upon Shalala cafe. Food there is pretty good and we have been frequenting the place since.

I had that and didn’t realise it was Siam Laksa. Anyway, will be back in Penang for a kenduri this weekend and will make it a point to have this dish again on our return trip ….. ciao

  2. Lilian,
You’re too much. You’re not only torturing me with laksa, on top of that is kuih koleh which is so delicous served during bukak puasa.
